Munnar Thekkady Alleppey Kovalam  Cochin Ooty Places Munnar Munnar   a picturesque and prominent   hill station along the Western Ghats in Kerala of  southern India.   The flowing mountainscapes, manmade lakes and reservoirs,  Tea plantations, rich flora and fauna makes this place a must see in the tourist map or India. Gifted with fresh  and pure air, cool and pleasant climate, Munnar is a paradise  in land for Nature lovers,  Photographers, Vacationers.  The name Munnar means tree rivers,   is derived from   Tamil and Malayalam(Both South  Indian Languages ) words Munnu meaning "three" and aaru which means "river",  referring to  the town's   location at the confluence of the  rivers Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly ,  together gives the Name Munnar as it is called now.  The Highest peak in South India, Anamudi  is situated here. Places to visit  Eravikulam national park  Eravikulam national park   a gaming area in the past is now  a wild life sanctuary  exclusively reserved for protecting Nigiri Tahr (Ibex), is one  prime spot to visit.    The park is  about 7 Kms from  Munnar.  Forest Department  plies buses from the 5th Mile to the park from  8.00 p.m to 5.00 p.m.  The park is closed for visitors every year during February and March  being the calving season of the Tahr. South India's highest peak Anamudi (2695 M)  Chinnar Wild life Sanctuary   Situated about 65 Kms. away from Munnar.  The sanctuary boast of Elephants, Tigers,  and variety of birds.  Forest Department of Kerala has erected watch towers  and provide  trekking into the forest.   Pothamedu view point :-  The Pothamedu view point is an excellent vantage point for view of plantations down-hills.   Athukad Waterfalls located near Pullivasal estate is a place one should not miss during this trip.  Visitors generally visit   sunset point during summer which is little away from here.    Tea Museum Tea museum  exhibits the history of planting in the High Ranges since 1870. The visiting  hours are from 10 am to 4 pm ( Monday Holiday).  The manufacturing process of  tea is  demonstrated using working models of miniature machinery. Top Station   It is one of Munnar's attractions.  One can still see the remains of ropeways used during the  British times here.  The panoramic view of Bodinyakanur (Theni District, Tamilnadu) is the  highlight. The following places are worth watching on  the way to Top station   Madupatty dam   A water reservoir for Hydel power generation, on the way to Top station.  Speed boating facility is  available here. Echo point  The water catchment area of the Madupatty reservoir where the squeals and whistles of the  tourists  echoes from the opposite  banks. Kundallay Lake  Another small water reservoir , on the way to Top station is  a silent place and once can take  slow rowing and pedal boats to enjoy the time.  Lockart Gap :-  Along the way to Madurai/Idukki, toursist go through Lokart gap and Chinnakanal  waterfalls.
